Minds are like parachutes, they only function when open.

One of the great things about America is that those who strike out in life can get another chance at bat.  The question for the New Hope Education Center is, "How do we get those lacking a ninth-grade education up to speed?"  At best they are working at low income jobs, and hopefully they've got to the point where they know they need advanced training to make a good wage.  Does he or she have the discipline and dedication to work for rewards tomorrow?  The first step is to get a high school equivalency diploma.  With this certificate in hand, a person can move into a short-term training program that provides technical training required by local employers.  In addition, students need to acquire the ability to work in teams and show motivation in their work.  Once students have the knowledge, skills and attitude, they can move from minimum wage jobs to company jobs.  In doing so, they generally double their earnings and receive fringe benefits.  In addition, the psychological benefits can be enormous!  They may even go on to pursue an associate's or bachelor's degree.

New Hope Education Center is a school catering to students over 21.  New Hope is unique in that it has different education providers offering different classes in the same space, at the same time.  New Hope Education Center strives to provide students with the necessary skills needed for self sufficiency through intellectually stimulating learning and support. Students will then acquire job preparation skills, attain gainful employment, and pursue continuing education options.   Classes are offered mornings, afternoons and evenings. Current providers offering classes are:

Erie Community College

Erie2CC Boces

Buffalo Public Schools Adult Education

New Hope frequently offers short term classes and speciality classes such as Safe driving courses, Census taker training and support for grandparents raising grandchildren.  An attorney is at the education center Wednesday mornings to provide free legal advice to the community.

Classes are taught by professional instructors certified and paid by the providers. The Director of the Education Center is Robert Sackett, professor emeritus.  Volunteer receptionists are at the desk each hour the school is open.  Harvest House provides volunteer tutors for the students.

If you would like to discuss offering classes at the New Hope Education Center, please contact Robert Sackett srsackett@gmail.com.

New Hope Education Center is located in the Harvest House Ministry Center on Jefferson Avenue.
