Pre-Collegiate Classes

Want to prepare for college?  Or do you just want to enhance math, reading and writing skills?  Come into New Hope today!

Where?- New Hope Education Center- 175 Jefferson Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14210- Across from the Frederick Douglass Towers between Swan and Clinton Street.

When?- Reading/Writing class takes place two weeknights each week              

Math class takes place two weeknights each week

Who can take the class?- You must be 18 or older, with a GED or high school diploma, in order to take this course.

How do I enroll?- Students must call 716-851-1243 to enroll.

What does it cost?- This course is completely free.

What do I learn in the class?- You will learn math, reading and writing, research, and study skills in preparation to enroll in college.

Extra Benefit: An ECC case manager will guide you through the financial aid and enrollment process if you would like to enroll at ECC.

Course Description- New Hope's Pre-Collegiate Studies program offers tuition free courses designed to provide college-bound students with an opportunity to raise their mathematics, reading and writing, computer, and research skills which will enable them to start their college studies at degree level coursework.  Course work includes studies in: Career Planning, Reading Skills, Writing Skills and Mathematics Skills, Information Technology Skills, and Research Skills.

New Hope currently offers two non-credit courses through ECC: 

  • Pre-Collegiate Reading/Writing (60 Instructional Hours):  This course is the first non-credit level for adult learners seeking developmental English skills in reading and writing.  This course provides adult learners with general study concepts and patterns to promote future educational experiences.
  • Pre-Collegiate Mathematics (60 Instructional Hours): Developmental Math preparation is designed to assist adults and students in transition with developmental math to give them the skills necessary to enter a college level class.  This course provides adult learners with general study concepts and patterns to promote future educational experiences.

Who teaches the class?- Our Pre-Collegiate Studies program is offered through Erie Community College.
